ARTIST SARA MATTINGLY CHOSEN TO PAINT NEW PORTRAIT OF COLONEL SANDERS
Sara Mattingly of Louisville, Ky., has been selected to paint a new portrait of Colonel Harland Sanders. Sara’s painting, which will be created using paint that includes KFC’s secret recipe of 11 herbs and spices, will hang in the lobby of KFC World Headquarters alongside a portrait of the Colonel painted by the legendary Norman Rockwell.
The preliminary sketch by Mattingly, who graduated from the University of Louisville in 2008 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, was selected the winner from among dozens of entries from talented artists all over the country. The judges noted that Mattingly’s sketch successfully captured Colonel Sanders’ image, and praised the sketch’s originality, creativity, quality and composition.
The portrait was commissioned to celebrate Colonel Harland Sanders's 120th birthday, which was Sept. 9.
Mattingly’s painting will be unveiled later this fall. To read more about the artist, visit her web page.
