HELPFUL TIPS FOR HEALTHY EATING ON THE GO

KFC® Introduces Two Sandwiches Low in Fat But Loaded with Taste
LOUISVILLE, KY - More time. Today,
everybody wants it. Forty-hour work weeks are a thing of the past. As we approach the new
millennium, people are working harder and longer hours than ever in many cases late
into the evening and on weekends just to get their jobs done. This frantic schedule
leaves little time for leisure, let alone eating right.
Fast Not Fattening
Quick-service restaurants are one solution to this dietary dilemma
because these restaurants provide satisfying meals while saving valuable time. Today,
dining out is a staple of daily life. The frequency of eating out has increased by more
than two-thirds over the past two decades, according to a recent study conducted by the
U.S. Department of Agriculture -- "Away-From-Home Foods Increasingly Important to
Quality of American Diet."
According to New York-based food consultant Dianne Keeler Bruce, the
key to incorporating fast food into a healthy diet is balance. "You dont have
to eliminate the conveniences of fast food restaurants to eat right," she said.
"Instead, make smart choices and practice moderation. If you choose to eat a
hamburger and French fries one day, opt for a low-fat chicken sandwich and veggies the
next."
To help consumers maintain their healthy diets while eating on the
go, KFC® will introduce two sandwiches in September that are low in fat but
loaded with taste. The Tender Roast® sandwich features the savory,
slow-roasted taste of KFCs popular Tender Roast chicken and contains 270 calories
and 5 grams of fat (177 grams of total weight) when ordered without the sauce. The
tangy Honey BBQ sandwich has 310 calories and 5 grams of fat (178 grams total weight). The
sandwiches are freshly made and served on a bakery-fresh Pepperidge Farm bun.
Vegetable options, including corn-on-the-cob (150 calories; 1.5
grams of fat); mashed potatoes and gravy (120 calories; 6 grams of fat); and baked beans
(190 calories; 3 grams of fat), have been standard KFC menu items for years.
How to Eat Smart on the Run
According to Keeler Bruce, healthy food in a hurry doesn't have
to be a hassle, if you eat S.M.A.R.T:
S Skip the cheese, mayonnaise and other fat-laden extras
M Minimize your order; choose a smaller portion
A Add vegetables as toppings and as side dishes
R Reduce the fat by choosing low fat or no-fat condiments
like ketchup, mustard and barbecue sauce
T Try it grilled or roasted, like the new Tender Roast chicken sandwich by KFC
